Co Louth’s Mark McAuley has maintained his recent excellent run of form, with victory in tonight’s (Friday) Samsung speed class at Mechelen’s World Cup show in Belgium – just a week after his wedding to his Swedish girlfriend Charlotte Mordasini.
McAuley partnered the 8-year-old gelding Valentino Tuiliere (Diamant de Semilly x Silvio) to the fastest clear round in 57.75 seconds to take the top prize of just over €6,000. Belgium’s Francois Jr Mathy took runner-up spot with Falco van de Clehoeve (57.83), while French rider Julien Epaillard finished third with Instit de Jucaso (58.09).
McAuley will line out in the Mechelen round of the Longines FEI World Cup series on Saturday along with fellow Irish rider Bertram Allen.
Meanwhile at the four-star Liverpool International Horse Show in the UK, Tipperary’s Shane Breen and Ipswich van de Wolfsakker finished second in today’s 1m50 jump-off class behind Egyptian winner Sameh El Dahan riding Sumas Zorro.
