Ireland’s incredible winning run in the individual international classes at the Dublin Horse Show continued today (Saturday), with Cian O’Connor and Denis Lynch taking Ireland’s total number of victories so far to six.
London Olympic bronze medalist O’Connor stormed to victory in the morning’s Accumulator by Mount Juliet Estate.
O’Connor, who jumped two fantastic rounds for Ireland in Friday’s Aga Khan with Good Luck, this time partnered the stallion Copain du Perchet CH, owned by Philippe Membrez. They picked up the maximum 65 points and crossed the line in 50.48 when drawn seventh to jump of 35 starters and took a winners prize of just over €8,000.
Mayo’s Cameron Hanley finished as runner-up with Aiyetoro a second slower than the winners time. Swiss rider Edwin Smits finished third with Pikelot von Hof CH, while Tipperary’s Denis Lynch took fourth place with RMF Swinny du Parc.
Lynch was back in the prizes a couple of hours later when he claimed Ireland’s sixth win in the JLT Dublin Stakes
Lynch’s victory, worth just over €8,000, came after a 14 horse jump-off where he partnered RMF Zecilie to the winning clear in 36.70. Swiss rider Steve Guerdat slotted into second with Cayetana – just three hundredths of a second slower than the Irish winner. French World No.3 Kevin Staut finished third with Vendome d’Anchat Hdc, while Kilkenny’s Richie Moloney finished fourth aboard Carrabis Z. Jenny Rankin also finished in the prizes for Ireland taking fifth place with Bennys Legacy.
The Land Rover Puissance will be the highlight this evening at the RDS with the Longines Grand Prix of Ireland to come on Sunday.
