CLEAR in both show jumping and cross country today (Saturday), Meath’s Sarah Ennis held on to finish in second place at the three-star event at Burgham in Northumberland.

Five other Irish riders also finished in the top ten at the British venue.

Ennis rode Irish Sport Horse Horseware Stellor Rebound, and though picking up time faults on cross country managed to close the gap on British leader Gemma Tattersall and Chico Bella P, but three vital penalties still separated them at the end of the day, leaving Ennis as runner-up.

Mullingar’s Joseph Murphy had today’s biggest improvement, coming up from outside the top 20 with DHI Top Story after dressage to finish in fifth overall, while Camilla Speirs and Portersize Just a Jiff (ISH) (TIH) climbed from overnight 14th to complete the competition in sixth place.

Murphy also claimed seventh aboard Sportsfield Othello (ISH) while Patricia Ryan slotted Dunrath Eclipse (ISH) into ninth overall. The big Irish presence at the top of the leaderboard was rounded off by Sarah Ennis and BLM Diamond Delux (ISH) in tenth.

In the two-star event at Burgham, Liz Power and Soladoun were best of the Irish, with a fifth place. The competition was won by Britain’s Nicola Wilson and the Irish Sport Horse Annie Clover.
