BALLINDENISK RETURNS TO CALENDAR AFTER 11 YEAR BREAK

(13 May 2010)

AFTER a break of 11 years Ballindenisk in Co. Cork will be hosting a CCI in September 2010 to replace the sad loss of the Necarne event in Co. Fermanagh.

In addition to the CCI**/* and CCNP** classes that Necarne ran for 15 years, Ballindenisk will be hosting a CCI*** class. There have been no Three-Star Three Day Events in Ireland since Punchestown International ran in 2007.

Ballindenisk ran their first International Three Day Event in 1977 and since then have run numerous FEI competitions and approaching a hundred National Events. In the six events that Ballindenisk hosted last year, the venue attracted 14.3 per cent of all entries in the whole island of Ireland.

Event Director Peter Fell said: “I am delighted we have been given approval for the event by the Board of Eventing Ireland and the FEI. We are looking forward to a brilliant event in September.”

Horse Sport Ireland Chairman Joe Walsh commented: "It is wonderful to see an international event of this calibre come back into the eventing calendar in Ireland. It is a tribute to the organising skills and determination of the Fell family that they have been able to restore the Ballindenisk competition at three star level after a break of 11 years, and I wish them all the best for September."

Previous International competitors at Ballindenisk include:

Zara Phillips (World and European Champion)
Matt Ryan (Triple Olympic Gold Medallist)
Oliver Townend (Badminton and Burghley winner 2009)
Yogi Breisner (World Class Performance Manager and Chef d'Equipe to the British Eventing Team)

The event will run from September 15 -19, 2010.
