WITH just under 150 entrants, Camphire in Co. Waterford makes its early awaited debut this weekend as a new Irish international event.
Set in beautiful countryside on the banks of the river Blackwater, Camphire's undulating parkland with many large trees makes interesting terrain for designing cross country fences. A wide variety of fences including a new water complex was built by the organisers this spring, and also a ditch palisade and an owl hole for the two-star event.
With both one and two-star and a 5 and 6 year-old class, Camphire will also feature a tented village with trade stands, and catering by Good Food Ireland when competitions start tomorrow (Friday).
HSI Chairman Joe Walsh said: "We are delighted to welcome Camphire to Ireland's international eventing calendar. This is a competition that will stand very well on its own merits, but will also test young horses for Le Lion d'Angers and other shows. It also happens to be held amidst some of the most picturesque surroundings in the country, and I'm sure it will attract a large number of spectators and enthusiasts for what I hope will be a very successful weekend."
