FOX-PITT FIRST, DOHERTY FOURTH AT FINISH OF TATTERSALLS THREE-STAR

(29 May 2011)

DESPITE incurring two time faults in the final show jumping phase of Tattersalls three-star event at Co. Meath today (Sunday) British Olympic medallist William Fox-Pitt held onto his lead with 'Oslo' to take the trophy, but Armagh's Jayne Doherty went clear and maintained her overnight position to finish best of the Irish in fourth place.

Armagh-born Doherty, riding the Wexford-bred Duca Di Busted gelding 'The Only One' also had a fault-free cross-country outing on Saturday, while the Irish-bred Ricardo Z gelding 'Sportsfield Othello', piloted by Mullingar's Joseph Murphy, had a zero penalty score today in show jumping and finished next-best of the Irish in 11th place.

Jayne Doherty, on her second mount 'Ravenstar', took 12th place, while Irish riders Sarah Ennis, Capt. Brian Curran Cournane, Susan Shortt, Jim Newsam, Capt. Geoff Curran and Michael Ryan also finished in the leaderboard's top twenty.

Tattersalls Horse Trials, run in association with Horse Sport Ireland, saw Britain's Fox-Pitt again finish in first position in the two-star event, with 'Bay My Hero', with Clare Abbot and the Irish-bred 'Euro prince' in ninth and Shane Power with the Tipperary-bred 'TLB Interactive' in tenth.
