HRH PRINCESS Haya of Jordan, the President of the FEI, is planning to attend Tattersalls International Horse Trials in association with Horse Sport Ireland, which takes place from May 26-29 in Co. Meath.
HRH Princess Haya confirmed her plans to Horse Sport Ireland Chairman Joe Walsh in Lausanne after today's (Friday) Extraordinary General Assembly of the FEI (Federation Equestre Nationale).
Joe Walsh said that he was delighted that Princess Haya was planning to attend the event.
"This is excellent news and demonstrates the standing the event at Tattersalls now has on the international calendar, " he said.
HRH Princess Haya bint Al Hussein is a daughter of King Hussein I of Jordan, and she married HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, in 2004.
Princess Haya participated in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, representing Jordan in show jumping, where she was also her country’s flag bearer.
She was elected president of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) in 2006 for an initial four-year term in the FEI’s first contested presidential race. She made history a second time in 2010, becoming the first sitting FEI president to be challenged in a re-election bid. Princess Haya succeeded in winning a second and final four-year term, receiving an overwhelming mandate of 75 percent of the vote.
Princess Haya's work and interests focus on humanitarian issues and human development concentrated primarily on the areas of health, education, youth and sports. She works on raising awareness of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially those of eliminating poverty and hunger. In the course of her duties the Princess works closely with a number of regional and global organizations, aid foundations and UN agencies.
