CO. DOWN rider Jim Newsam claimed victory this afternoon (Sunday) in the CCI three-star class at Ballindenisk in Co. Cork with his own Irish-bred gelding "Magennis'.
The 31 year-old Newcastle-born competitor added just 7.6 cross country time faults to his dressage score of 59.8, and went clear in show jumping today to take the first prize in what is the highest ranked international three-day event in Ireland this year.
Afterwards he said: "“It was a great event and my horse was on the top of his game throughout the four days”
Joseph Murphy and the chestnut Cruising gelding 'Electric Cruise' were close behind in second place, just under a point adrift, while the Army Equitation School's Capt. Brian Curran Cournane took third place with yet another Irish sport horse, the Blue Moon Clover gelding 'Dunran Castle'.
In the CCI two-star, Britain's Olivia Wilmot took the honours with 'Cool Dancer', while Ireland's Monica Whelan won the CCI one-star with 'Act On Impulse'.
The CIC three-star class saw Ireland's Peter Hannigan and 'First Mate' on the winner's podium, while Frances Younghusband and 'Ballintogher Gigolo' were first in the CIC two-star.
