CARLOW'S Sam Watson led the Irish charge at Aldon's national One-Day Event in England this weekend, with a win and two top five places, while other Irish combinations also took top ten places.

Watson's victory was on the Irish-bred 'GFG Rambo Man' in one of the Intermediate sections, and he also took a third in the Advanced Intermediate section with 'Horseware Bushman', and a runner-up place with 'Hoyo' in the Open Intermediate.

Other irish riders who featured at Alton included Austin O'Connor, Eric Smylie, Louise Lyons, Elizabeth Power and Kildare's Robert O'Callaghan, who took a ninth place in the Junior section with 'Cashlyn Cavalier'.
