(16 Mar 2011)

Declan McArdleHorse Sport Ireland has announced the appointment of Declan McArdle as Chairman of the HSI Reining & Western Committee. This appointment follows the successful launch of the HSI Reining & Western section during 2010.

Declan McArdle is an Equine Specialist with Teagasc. He holds a BSc Degree in Equine Science, as well as the BHSI. Declan spent time as a student working on the Hackamore Ranch in Arizona, where he was fortunate enough to work for Glen and Ann Everett. Glen Everett was a very successful western competitor, winning state championships in reining and roping competitions.

Chairman of Horse Sport Ireland, Joe Walsh, said; “I welcome Declan to the role, he brings a passion to seeing the development of the sport and participation levels within this sector of the equestrian industry.”

Speaking on his appointment, Declan said; “I developed a passion for western riding during my time spent in Arizona and I am delighted to have been able to take up this voluntary position as Chairman of the Reining & Western Committee.”

“I feel western riding has a lot to offer equine enthusiasts here in Ireland, from both a leisure and a competitive perspective. Horse Sport Ireland has recently established a group of Level 1 and Level 2 instructors qualified under the Western Equestrian Society system. The Committee’s aim is to encourage new members to get involved in the sport, as well as upskilling those who wish to compete at a higher level and providing qualifications for those who wish to set up alternative enterprises revolving around western horsemanship,” he added.
