HORSE Sport Ireland Chairman Joe Walsh today (Friday) welcomed the re-election of
HRH Princess Haya Al Hussein of Jordan as the President of the FEI at the
Federation's General Assembly in Taipei.
Princess Haya, who was seeking a second and final four-year term as
President, won with 90 votes of a total 124 valid ballots.
Joe Walsh said: "Our primary concern was that the FEI would take a strong line on the
use of medication in our sport. We did not agree with the introduction
of the so called 'progressive list' at last year's General Assembly.
"However, that issue has been addressed since then and under these
circumstances I was happy to recommend to the board of Horse Sport
Ireland, last week, that we should support Princess Haya in the election.
Our position was known to all candidates before the vote," he said.
"Princess Haya has a great affinity with Ireland and we look forward to
working with her in her second term," he concluded.
Horse Sport Ireland was represented at the FEI General Assembly in
Taipei by the Chairman of its Rules Committee, Charles Powell.
