THE National Equestrian Intervarsity Championships first started in the 1970s and has grown in participation year on year with our largest entry last year where WIT hosted over 250 competitors from more than 20 3rd level institutions in Ireland.
The dressage and show jumping events are run in a knock-out format culminating with the fourth round head to head between the remaining finalists on Sunday afternoon. The Prix Caprilli is a competition aimed at leisure/beginner riders incorporating the basic elements of show jumping and dressage and is run as a solitary round.
There are seven running competitions within the Intervarsity weekend, with individual and team honours on offer for dressage, show-jumping and prix caprilli, along with the prestigious Overall College Trophy.
The Championships are hosted this year by NUI Galway and will take place on the 11th & 12th of February in Duffy's Equestrian Centre. IURCA are expecting a great turn out and also look forward to welcoming invitational teams from the United Kingdom, Poland and Belgium.
