O'GORMAN TAKES OVER AS CHAIRMAN OF PARA EQUESTRIAN IRELAND

(04 Aug 2011)

THE recently retired Officer Commanding of the Army Equitation School, Lt-Col Gerry O’Gorman, is to take over as the Chairman of Para Equestrian Ireland. The position was previously held by Norman Storey.

Horse Sport Ireland Chairman Joe Walsh said that Lt-Col O’Gorman would be taking up the role at the invitation of the Para Equestrian Ireland board.

“Gerry did an outstanding job as Officer Commanding of the School where he contributed immensely to the development of the sector. I am delighted that he has agreed to take on this role. I also want to pay tribute to Norman Storey who held the position for the previous three years.”

Para Equestrian Ireland Executive Director Dara Kearney said the board was honoured when Gerry agreed to take on this role. “It is fantastic to have someone of Gerry's experience and talent to build on Norman’s work,” she said.

Lt-Col O’Gorman said that he was looking forward to taking up the role.

“The horse sector has been very good to me and I am looking forward to putting something back into the sport. Para Equestrian Ireland is a fantastic organisation who does very good work and I'm looking forward to the challenge,” he said.

It has also been confirmed that Siobhán English, former Editor of the Irish Horse World in The Irish Field, will take over as Public Relations Officer of Para Equestrian Ireland.
