Helen McFarland appointed as Chef d’Equipe of the Irish Endurance team

Horse Sport Ireland are delighted to announce that Helen McFarland has been appointed as Chef d’Equipe of the Irish Endurance team.

Mrs McFarland, from Holywood Co Down, has been involved in training and coaching Endurance riders for a number of years and is a former Chairperson of The Irish Long Distance Riding Asssociation (ILDRA). She has represented Ireland in Endurance at international level for over 20 years up to CEI 3*** level and at the 1997 Endurance World Cup in Qatar, 2000 World Championships in France and at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy (FRA).

Speaking after her appointment, Helen McFarland said:

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with the Irish endurance team and to promote the interests of ILDRA on the international stage.”

The sport of Endurance continues to grow in Ireland, with a number of Irish riders competing regularly at international FEI events throughout the world. It is hoped that Ireland will qualify a full team of riders for next years World Equestrian Games in Tryon, USA.

Both Hilda Donahue and Tom MacGuinness have already qualified as individuals for WEG 2018, while Jane Waterman-Moss is also on the verge of qualification.

An Endurance riders’ representative has also been named, with Nicola Boud Tighe taking up the position.
