FONTAINEBLEAU 12TH-15TH APRIL 2012 CSIOP/CSIP SELECTION SYSTEM

For 2012, results of the Pony Spring Tour will be used to allocate places in the International show in Fontainebleau.

Each of the riders selected for the CSIOP or CSIP section will be allowed to bring a second pony in addition to the one which they qualified on as well as a 6 year old and/or seven year old pony (Please note that the number of ponies that will be accepted is subject to confirmation from Fontainebleau show). These ponies must be approved by the committee as being of sufficient standard to compete in Fontainebleau.

The Spring Tour
18th February - Kildare International
26th February - Ballinamona
10th March - Cavan Equestrian Centre*
18th March - Barnadown*
24th March - Galway Equestrian Centre*
1st April (Final) - Mullingar
*1.30m Classes for CSIOP

Ranking System
CSIOP-130m classes
Places on the Nations’ Cup squad will be allocated based on performances in all three 1.30m classes which take place as part of the spring tour:-

10th March - Cavan Equestrian Centre
18th March - Barnadown
24th March - Galway Equestrian Centre

Each combinations five lowest total fault scores out of a possible six rounds of these 1.30m classes will count towards their overall ranking for the allocation of places in Fontainebleau 12th – 15th April CSIOP, (i.e. one discard score allowed).

These classes will be run under SJI Rule 273 2.2 - All competitors have to take part in the first round with at least 25% and in any case, even it is not mentioned in the schedule, all clear rounds going into the second round, in accordance with their placing in the first round (penalties and time or penalties only).

In the case where combinations finish level having accumulated the fault totals as set out above, the combinations finishing position in the last 1.30m class at Galway 24th March, will determine their ranking compared to the other combinations that finish on the same accumulated score.

If a combination does not compete at Galway 24th March they will be considered to have finished behind all those who did compete in the final leg for the purposes of resolving a tie in the accumulation of faults as set out above.

The first five combinations in the rankings will be allocated a place on the Nations’ Cup squad for Fontainebleau 12th – 15th April CSIOP. These rankings will not carry to Fontainebleau. Following the warm up classes in Fontainebleau, the Chef d’Equipe will select the four combinations to jump for Ireland in the Nations’ Cup from amongst the five that travel as part of the squad.

The combinations that are ranked from places 6 to 10 will be allocated places in the CSIP competition.

CSIP- 1.20 metre classes.

The 10 remaining places in the CSIP competition will be allocated to the combinations that finish in the top ten in the 1.20m series (Kildare 18th February to Galway 24th March).

There will be FIVE of these classes in total (Kildare 18th February to Galway 24th March). The combinations highest placing points in four of these will count towards their overall ranking.

15 points First place
14pts Second place
13pts Third place
12pts Fourth place
11pts Fifth place
10pts Sixth place
9pts Seventh place
8pts Eight place
7pts Ninth place
6pts Tenth place
5pts Eleventh place
4pts Twelfth place
3pts Thirteenth place
2pts Fourteenth place
1pt Fifteenth place

In the case where combinations finished level on accumulated points using the system set out above, the combinations finishing position at Galway 24th March will determine their final ranking compared to the other combinations that finish on the same accumulated score.

If a combination does not compete at Galway 24th March they will be considered to have finished behind all those who did compete at Galway 24th March for the purposes of resolving a tie in the accumulation of faults as set out above.

For the avoidance of doubt, combinations can attempt to secure a place in Fontainebleau 12th – 15th April CSIP 1.20 classes through both the 1.20m rankings and the 1.30 metre rankings.

Six and Seven Year old ponies:

6 year old ponies will qualify through 1.10 classes at the Spring Tour Kildare 18th February to Galway 24th March and 7 year old ponies will qualify through 1.20 Spring Tour classes from Kildare 18th February to Galway 24th March

Each combinations four lowest total fault scores from the first round in their respective competition will count towards their overall ranking for the allocation of places in Fontainebleau (four best first round scores from a possible five).
In the case where combinations finish level having accumulated the fault totals as set out above the combinations finishing position in the last 1.10 / 1.20 class in Galway 24th March will determine their ranking compared to other combinations that finish on the same accumulated score.
If a combination does not compete at Galway 24th March they will be considered to have finished behind all those who did compete at Galway 24th March for the purposes of resolving a tie in the accumulation of faults as set out above.
Any ponies that intend to stay within the SJI point threshold for the purposes of RDS 2012 qualification will be scored by jumping Hors Concours in competition for this qualification series.

Veterinary:
All ponies who intend to travel must be measured by HSI’s pony veterinarian Con Kennedy. Con Kennedy’s decision on measuring is final.

Please note:
While every effort will be made to adhere to the process set out above the committee can alter it at any time or can choose to abandon it if they consider it to be in the best interest of the Irish squad travelling to Fontainbleau 12th – 15th April CSIOP, CSIP . In addition, they can choose to leave any selected rider or pony at home if they consider it to be in the best interest of the Irish squad travelling to Fontainebleau 12th – 15th April CSIOP, CSIP

IRELAND WINS SWISS NATIONS' CUP

IRELAND'S pony team this afternoon (Friday) won the Swiss Nations' Cup at Chevenez, and as a result finished joint first in the 2011 Pony EY Challenge Cup with Belgium.

With five teams battling it out for the Cup, Ireland finished the first round on a zero score, with Germany and Belgium joint second, and in the final round the Irish quartet incurred just eight faults to take the trophy ahead of second-placed Switzerland on 12 faults and Belgium on 16.

Ireland had a double clear round from Max O'Reilly-Hyland and Rock Dee Jay, while anchorman Bertram Allen and Acapella Z went clear in the first round but didn't need to jump in the second.

Irish opener Tom Foley and Crown Jewel went clear first time out and picked up four faults in the second round, while Eoin McMahon and the Irish-bred Another Destiny had a single time fault on their first round and four faults on the second.

European double silver

ALLEN ADDS YET ANOTHER PONY SILVER MEDAL TO IRELAND'S EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP HAUL

WEXFORD'S Bertram Allen added yet another silver medal this afternoon (Sunday) to Ireland's haul at the European Pony Championships in Jaskowo, Poland when finishing second in the Individual Show Jumping Championships.

The 15 year-old, riding 'Acapella Z', took part in a jump-off for medals with two British riders - Beth Vernon and Jessica Mendoza, and was pipped to the Gold by Vernon and her mare 'Falaza'.

However, Emma O'Dwyer and the Irish-bred 'Jacknell Street' kept up Ireland's presence in the leaderboard by claiming fourth place individually.

Allen's result brought Ireland's weekend tally of European medals to two team Silvers (Jumping and Eventing), one individual Silver (Jumping) and one individual Bronze (Eventing).

This morning the Eventing pony team of Josh Pim, Lucy Latta, Ana O'Brien and Jodie O'Keeffe went on the attack during the final show jumping test and pulled themselves up from overnight third to Silver Medal position, with Jodie O'Keeffe also taking the Individual Bronze Medal.

On Friday the Irish pony show jumping team of Bertram Allen, Max O'Reilly Hyland, Michael Duffy and Emma O'Dwyer finished on a Silver Medal score of nine faults, with Britain taking the Gold on eight faults after two rounds of the Nations' Cup.

Today the margin was even closer, with the Irish Eventers finishing on 157.7 and the French gold medallists on 157.8.

Team Ireland Equestrian's Eventing pony Chef d'Equipe Sue Shortt said: "It was a fantastic performance from all the riders, many of them finishing on their dressage scores. To come so close to taking first place was agonising, but heading home with a European silver medal and a bronze individual is no mean achievement, in my book."

HSI Chairman Joe Walsh said that Ireland's pony riders (u16) had done their country proud.

"To win two team silver medals is outstanding. I want to congratulate the children, their parents and all the coaches and support staff," he said.

"Results like thus can only be achieved when everyone works together and I want to acknowledge the important contribution of the countless volunteers in our affiliate bodies, Showjumping Ireland and Eventing Ireland, in the work they do to promote and organise the sport at grassroots level."
