Team Managers Appointed for Junior & Young Rider Squads

HORSE Sport Ireland has announced the Team Managers for the Junior and Young rider eventing squads.

 Sally Corscadden will be the Team Manager and Chef d’Equipe for the young rider squad (U21) while Debbie Byrne will be Chef d’Equipe for the Junior rider squad (U18) with Jane O'Flynn as head coach.

These positions were filled following recent interviews and are carried out on a voluntary basis.

A Horse Sport Ireland spokesman said today: “There were really excellent candidates interested in the positions. It is great to see people with this level of experience being willing to put something back into the sport."

Sally Corscadden from Kildare was a Bronze Team Medal winner at the 1993 European Championships, and was a reserve for the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. She was on the fifth-placed team at the World Equestrian Games in The Hague in 1994. Sally is also an HSI Level 2 Coach.

Debbie Byrne from Co. Antrim represented Ireland at the Young Rider European Championships at Compiegne in 1992 and was Assistant Chef d’Equipe at the 2006 Junior European Championships at Necarne in 2006. She holds a BA (Hons) Degree in Sport.

Kildare’s Jane O’Flynn represented Ireland for over ten years internationally, and was a reserve for the 2004 Olympic Eventing team, a member of the 2002 Irish team at the World Equestrian Games in Spain, and in 2001 was ranked sixth as FEI World Event Rider, amongst many other achievements.

APPLICATIONS SOUGHT Irish Team Manager/Chef d’Equipe Junior and Young Rider Eventing Team

The position of Team Manager/Chef d’Equipe to Junior and Young Rider Eventing Team is now vacant. Applications  are being sought for this voluntary position.
 

The position would involve a substantial commitment during the year in the lead up to the European Championships in Vale Sabroso (POR) and Blair Castle (GBR).
Some of these days will be during the working week but the majority will be at the weekend.

This is a voluntary position within Horse Sport Ireland but HSI will cover agreed out of pocket expenses occurred by the Team Manager/Chef d’Equipe


The Responsibilities

Selecting a High Performance squad in line with selection criteria and preparing them for the European Junior & Young Rider Eventing Championships
Selecting the team for the European Junior and Young Rider Eventing Championships
Acting as Chef d’Equipe for the European Junior and Young Rider Eventing Championships
Act as point of contact for Junior / Young Rider Eventing High Performance riders
Nominate team coaches in conjunction with the Equestrian Sport Co-ordinator

The Candidate


Must have knowledge of International Eventing at the highest level
Must be results driven and comfortable in a competitive sporting environment
Have excellent communications skills
Be of the highest integrity and be capable of being a good ambassador for Ireland at home and abroad
Must be highly organised and proficient in the use of Microsoft computer packages (Word, and Outlook)
The successful applicant will report to the Equestrian Sport Co-ordinator

Northern Training Day

Date: Sunday 15th May 2011
Venue: Meadows EC, Lurgan, Co Armagh
Time: All Day (Times will be issued at later time for individual slots nearer the time)
Cost: £40 per rider/horse combination

This event is being subsidised kindly by the ‘Wendy Watson’ Fund and will run under Eventing Ireland Insurance.

Vanda Robinson will be judging the test to be ridden at Tattersalls 3 Day, she will then spend 15/20 minutes with each rider after the test to discuss what areas need to be worked on. Terry Boon will also be there to help work the riders in, if they wish and he will also discuss the test along with Vanda.

Ian Fearon is building an up to height showjumping track for all age groups. He will do course walks with groups of 4, warm them up and then watch them jump. Again the rider will be able to discuss the round with Ian.

Both Ian and Terry will be available at Tattersalls 3 day. Ian will be there definitely on the Sunday for the showjumping and Terry will be there all week from Tuesday morning to help prepare for the dressage phase.

This is open to all under age Eventing Ireland riders ie, ponies, juniors and under 25 riders, and if time or slots are available, and the demand is there, it can be opened up to senior riders aswell.

Stabling can be arranged if necessary, for those travelling from southern regions

Eventing High Performance - 2010 Mid Term Assessment

Assessment for inclusion on the High Performance Programme for Young Riders & Juniors will take place at Coilog Equestrian Centre, Kilmeague, Co.Kildare on Friday 19th February 2010.

Programme to commence at 9 a.m. with flat work (indoor) in groups working individually.  Each combination will be expected to show themselves and their Horse working to the appropriate level.

This will be followed by a Show Jumping round (outdoor) as follows:

  • Juniors: height up to 1.10 meters
  • Y / R:     height up to 1.20 meters.
