HORSE SPORT IRELAND (HSI) NATIONAL COACHING AND BREEDING CONFERENCE 2014 ‘Production of Horses for Profit and Performance’

HORSE Sport Ireland (HSI) is delighted to announce details for the HSI National Coaching and Breeding Conference 2014. This year, the conference will focus on producing horses for profit and performance and will feature internationally renowned equestrian professionals such as international show jumping legend Michel Robert and lead practitioner for human science and sports medicine at the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Andy Thomas. The conference will also feature explanations and demonstrations on conformation analysis of the performance horse by former KWPN inspector Jacques Verkerk as well as Dr Emmeline Hill of University College Dublin (UCD) who will discuss equine exercise genomics.

This conference is a must attend for all equine professionals, riders, breeders, coaches, competitors, instructors, equine students and anyone with an interest in horses.

 The conference will address breeding, training, management and preparation of competition horses and riders for optimum performance. It will also feature Irish show jumping riders Capt. Michael Kelly and Greg Broderick.

Michel Robert Michel Robert has had a distinguished career spanning forty years in international show jumping. He has won 13 medals at Olympic, World Games and European level, come 1st in the top ten in Brussels (2006) and won the final of the Global Champions Tour CSI 5* Grand Prix in Doha (2009), to name but a few achievements. Since his retirement from international competition in 2013 Michel is now dedicated training and educating the next generation of riders and has published books and DVDs.

Dr Emmeline Hill Dr Emmeline Hill is a UCD Lecturer in Equine Science and leads the Equine Exercise Genomics research group funded by Science Foundation Ireland at the UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science. She has been at the forefront of Thoroughbred performance genomics during the last decade and has published more scientific papers on equine exercise genomics than any other researcher worldwide.  

Andrew Thomas Andrew Thomas is currently the Lead Physiotherapist for the British Equestrian Federation. He is responsible for the Eventing, Dressage, Para Equestrian Dressage and Show Jumping Performance and Development Squads. He was the Olympic Team GB Physiotherapist to the Equestrian Teams in Beijing 2008 and London 2012. Andrew has been the Physiotherapist at two World Equestrian Games, and 8 European Championships and is the Lead Physio at Badminton, Burghley, Bramham Three Day Events and also at Olympia.  

Jacques Verkerk Jacques Verkerk is a horse breeding specialist and former inspector for the KWPN both in the Netherlands and North America. He specialises in judging, selecting sport horses and lectures all around the world on sport horse breeding, judging and linear profiling.Jacques also chairs the selection committee of the Elite Foal Auction Borculo, one of the top-class auctions in Europe.
