International Eventing Forum 2018 – Hartpury College

The International Eventing Forum has announced the panel for their annual forum taking place in Hartpury College on Monday 5th February 2018.

The panel for the day includes; Sandy Phillips, Eric Smiley, Charlie Unwin and Fredik Bergendorff.

The day will start with the legendary International Dressage Trainer, Judge and Rider Sandy Phillips, with her session “If it isn’t good (enough), it won’t get better”. As a member of the US Olympic dressage team, Sandy rode in three World Championships and after moving to England, became a member of the British Dressage team for the Europeans and World Championships as well as a British National Champion. She was a Team Selector for the British Dressage Team from 2008-2012, culminating in team and individual Olympic Gold Medals. Now residing in Worcestershire, Sandy is a top FEI Judge for both Eventing and Dressage and was a member of the Eventing Ground Jury at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

Due to popular demand from regular IEF attendees, the pre-lunch session will be from IEF co-founder Eric Smiley (FBHS) – an Olympian and 4* competitor who needs little introduction in eventing circles. Eric will discuss how “The Foundation allows for Progress”.

After lunch attendees will enjoy a talk from Charlie Unwin – renowned performance psychologist who has built a reputation for his specialist experience in helping equestrians accelerate their potential, perform consistently in competition and thrive under pressure. Charlie’s session will address how  “The Mind limits the body”.

The key presenter for the much-anticipated afternoon session is Fredrik Bergendorff from Sweden who will share with the audience his expert knowledge on “Preparing for the Top”. Fredrik is the new Swedish Event Team manager/coach who steered his team to bronze medal position at the recent 2017 European Eventing Championships at Strzegom, in Poland.

Fredrik’s experience, and passion for the sport, position him as an elite trainer and mentor. He is a previous European Team Gold Medallist (1993) himself and a winner of the Newcomers Final at HOYS (2004). Since retiring from competition Fredrik has dedicated himself to training others and has built his skill base to include the extremely important “Communication and Interpersonal Mentoring Skills and NLP & Transactional Analysis”.

It’s this commitment to education that led to his recent positions as a member of the British Show Jumping Coaches “Excel Talent Programme”, the British Olympic Association Ambition Programme as a Coach attending the Rio Olympics, and a Member of the Sport England Aspire Coach Talent Squad. Clearly it’s Fredrik’s vast knowledge base, and obvious attention to detail, that has led to his current position as Head Coach for the Swedish Eventing Team.

Fredrik’s expert insights, along with the other 3 top “Professional Presenters”, will no doubt educate and inspire us all, so make sure you put the date in your diary – now:
