Irish combinations set for World Young Horse Championships, while Kearney continues Paralympic campaign

Team Ireland Equestrian will be represented at the FEI WBFSH World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses, which take place at Lanaken (BEL) this weekend. The first of the qualifying classes kick off tomorrow (Thursday), with day two of the qualifiers being held on Friday. Saturday will see the consolation classes take place, with the Championship medals being decided on Sunday.

At Rio, Helen Kearney and Rock And Roll 2 continue with their Paralympic campaign on Thursday, with the Individual Championship test taking place at 16.45 GMT. On Friday, the Freestyle Championship takes place at 18.10 GMT. The top third of the field qualify to compete in Friday’s test, with medals being on offer on for both Thursday and Friday’s Championships.

In addition to Lanaken, Irish showjumpers compete at Wien (AUT), North Salem New York (USA), Donaueschingen (GER), Moorsele (BEL) and Jardy (FRA). In eventing, Ireland plays host to a home international this weekend, with action taking place at Ballindenisk (IRL). Elsewhere in eventing, Irish riders will fly the flag at Gatcombe Park (GBR) and Unionville Pennsylvania (USA).

This week, in excess of 180 entries have been made for Irish riders competing in international competition. This brings the total number of Irish international entries for this year, to date, to over 5,500 entries. Ireland will be represented in eight different countries by 117 individual athletes this week.
