THE SECOND leg of Horse Sport Ireland’s Irish Sport Horse Studbook Show Jumping Series 2011 took place this weekend at Barnadown. With €10,000 in prize money on offer for these 5 year old and 6/7 year old classes, competition was fierce at the Wexford venue.

Forty-nine combinations started in Saturday’s 5 year old qualifier, with 62 horses entered for the 6/7 year old qualifier. The 5 year old final on Sunday saw 12 combinations producing clear rounds to make it through to the jump-off, which is not run against the clock. Eight combinations went on to share the €4,500 prize fund.

In the 6/7 year old final, three 6 year olds and three 7 year olds went through to the jump-off. First into the ring were Gary Quinn and Renolli (ISH). The pair set the time to beat at 41.65 but were to eventually finish in 5th place. Last into the ring, Greg Broderick and the 7 year old Rincarina (ISH) produced a foot perfect round in the very fast time of 37.32.
