THE THIRD leg of Horse Sport Ireland’s Irish Sport Horse Studbook Showjumping Series 2011 took place this weekend at Cavan Equestrian Centre. With €10,000 in prize money on offer for these 5 year old and 6/7 year old classes, competition was fierce throughout the two days.
Forty-nine combinations started in Saturday’s 5 year old qualifier, with 51 horses entered for the 6/7 year old qualifier. The 5 year old final on Sunday saw 10 combinations producing clear rounds to make it through to the jump-off, which is not run against the clock. These 10 combinations went on to share the €4,500 prize fund.
In the 6/7 year old final, five 6 year olds and one 7 year old went through to the jump-off.
First into the ring were Gary Quinn and Renolli (ISH). The pair set the time to beat at 46.10 but were to eventually finish in 4th place.
Second last of the 6 year olds into the ring, Greg Broderick and Noel Cawleys’ Golden Exchange (ISH) produced a foot perfect round in the very fast time of 40.78. Broderick also had the only 7 year old in the jump off, also owned by Noel Cawley. Castellar (ISH) was last to go and produced an unlucky 4 faults to give the 6 year old Golden Exchange (ISH) first place.
