THE fourth leg of Horse Sport Ireland’s Irish Sport Horse Studbook Showjumping Series 2011 took place this weekend at Mullingar International Show, with Clem McMahon and 'Rosie Bee' claiming the 6/7 Year-Old Final trophy.

With €10,000 in prize money on offer for these 5 year old and 6/7 year old classes, competition was fierce at the Westmeath venue.

Fifty-two combinations started in Saturday’s 5 year old qualifier, with 59 horses entered for the 6/7 year old qualifier. The 5 year old final on Sunday saw 10 combinations producing clear rounds to make it through to the jump-off, which is not run against the clock. All but an unlucky one of these 10 combinations went on to share the €4,500 prize fund.

In the 6/7 year old final, 12 combinations made it through to the jump off; eight 6 year olds and four 7 year olds.

First into the ring was Linda Courtney riding her own LCC Lux Like Cavalier (ISH). The pair set the time to beat at 44.66 but were to eventually finish in 8th place. First of the 7 year olds, Clem McMahon rode a superb round on the Lux Z (HANN) mare Rosie Bee (ISH), in a very quick time of 31.76.

This time proved to be unbeatable by the remaining three combinations to go through the ring, leaving McMahon to claim the winners’ share of the prize fund, four seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
