THE final qualifier leg of Horse Sport Ireland’s Irish Sport Horse Studbook Showjumping Series 2011 took place this weekend at Cork Summer Show. With €10,000 in prize money on offer for these 5 year old and 6/7 year old classes, competition was hot at the Munster venue, but Greg Broderick emerged the victor in the 6/7 Year-Old Final.

Thirty-three combinations started in Saturday’s 5 year old qualifier, with 46 horses entered for the 6/7 year old qualifier. The 5 year old final on Sunday saw 11 combinations producing clear rounds to make it through to the jump-off, which is not run against the clock, all of whom went on to jump clear in the second round to share the €4,500 prize fund.

In the 6/7 year old final, 15 combinations made it through to the jump off; ten 6 year olds and five 7 year olds. 

First into the ring was Greg Broderick aboard Jim Bourke’s Cruising (ISH) mare, Cappanaleigh Cruise (ISH). Broderick rode a superb clear round setting the time to beat at 38.69. This proved impossible to beat by all, including Broderick on his other rides in the jump off, Golden Exchange (ISH) and BP Blondey (ISH) who were placed 3rd and 5th respectively. Second of the 7 year olds into the ring, Rosie Bee (ISH) and Clem McMahon, were the only pair to beat the time, sailing around in a time of 37.26 but unfortunately had a fence on the floor which was only good enough for 8th place.
