In the 2YO Filly All Ireland Championship at Kildysart Show on Saturday last Gerry Grace and his locally bred bay filly Lucy (Lux Z x Rusheen Star) took first place, while Kieran O’Gorman with his filly Brookfield Miss Lux (Lux Z x Kildysert Royale) was runner up. The championship was sponsored by Clare Oil Co. Ltd., Abbey Contractors Ltd. and Kildysart Show and is part of the Horse Sport Ireland National Showing Series.
It was a busy weekend for all in County Clare as Sunday saw the final of the FBD sponsored County Clare Broodmare All Ireland Championship at the Ennis Showgrounds. A large crowd turned out to welcome the select field, many of whom were already prolific show winners, both locally and nationally. After lengthy deliberations, the County Clare native Mythical Ruby (Colin Diamond x Mythical Cruise) was announced as the winner, a decision which provoked loud roars of approval from those observing. The winner was owned and bred by Sheila Barry.
Both The County Clare Broodmare All Ireland Championship and the 2YO Filly All Ireland Championship are included in Horse Sport Ireland's new National Showing Championship Series, in association with the Irish Shows Association. Only ten Championships around Ireland have been included in the Series, which will see €20,000 being injected into showing in 2011.
