Lynch fifth in Cannes Global Tour Grand Prix while Kenny wins in Poland

Tipperary’s Denis Lynch and the stallion All Star 5 recorded a fifth place finish in the five-star Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Cannes tonight (Saturday), adding to a victory for the same pairing 24 hours earlier at the picturesque French seaside venue.

Lynch and All Star collected a single time fault in the opening round and kept all the fences standing again when one of 18 who went forward to the second round. Bertram Allen also made it through to round two with Romanov and eventually would finish in 18th place with the 18-year-old stallion.

Former World No.1, Britain’s Scott Brash collected the winners prize of almost €100,000 when he produced the fastest time of a four horse third round jump-off against the clock.

Meanwhile at another five-star fixture in Poland, Offaly’s Darragh Kenny stormed to victory in the Speed and Handiness competition in  Sopot. Kenny partnered Catuso to the fastest time of 65.40 seconds, while Tipperary’s Shane Breen finished seventh with Acoustik Solo du Baloubet.

Earlier the Irish Pony Show Jumping team won the German Nations Cup in Hagen, finishing on five faults after two rounds.

A double clear round from Co Clare’s Jason Foley with the Irish-bred pony, Lynncot Fancy Pants, sealed victory for Gary Marshall’s team, which also included Sligo’s Cian Harrison, Wexford’s Harry Allen and Kilkenny’s Oisin Aylward.
An Irish rider also took victory in the Pony Speed class, with Wexford’s Harry Allen finishing on top of the podium riding the Irish-bred pony, Aughnashammer, while Cork’s Abbie Sweetnam came home in third with Spartacus Reape.
