Breeding - River Foyle (Ish) & Captain Shane Carey (Irl) Win Cavan International Grand Prix

IRISH Sport Horses enjoyed success in Grand Prix classes over the weekend. At Sacramento, Camaron Hills Shanroe (ISH) and Joie Gatlin (USA) were seventh in the $25,000 Welcome Grand Prix. At the same event Flexible (ISH) and Rich Fellers (USA) took home their share of the $75,000 prize fund when they finished in fifth place in the FEI World Cup Grand Prix. At Cavan International, Captain Shane Carey (Irl) and the Minister for Defence's River Foyle (ISH) were victorious in Sunday's Grand Prix class. In the same class, Olive Clarke (Irl) took second place with Starboard (ISH). Irish Sport Horses featured in the top two in five of the six international classes at the show. Show Jumping - Splaine Names Aga Khan Squad For Dublin Super League

HORSE Sport Ireland Team Manager Robert Splaine this afternoon (Monday) confirmed his squad from which he will pick the Aga Khan Team to represent Ireland at the Failte Ireland Dublin Horse Show next month. Ireland's squad for Dublin, from which four will be selected to compete in the team is, in alphabetical order: Edward Doyle; Sequoyah Farms Utopia Jessica Kurten; Castle Forbes Libertina Denis Lynch; Nabab's Son Eddie Macken; First Tedechine Sept Cian O'Connor; Complete or Rancorrado The squad sees two changes from the last round in Hickstead, with Edward Doyle and Jessica Kurten replacing Marion Hughes and Capt. David O'Brien. Robert Splaine said this afternoon: "I am fortunate to be able to call on five very experienced riders with horses who can perform at this level. This is a vital Nations Cup for us, not just because it's the Aga Khan but also due to our position in the Super League. Put simply this is a competition we need to win."

Show Jumping - Kerins Third In Dublin Sports Council Classic

US - BASED Darragh Kerins made a rare trip to Ireland to take third place in today's (Wednesday) big jump-off class at the Failte Ireland Dublin Horse Show. Riding the nine year-old chestnut gelding 'Night Train' for only his second year, the 33 year-old Irish rider was just over a second slower than Swiss winner Markus Fuchs in the 1m50 Sports Council Classic. Twelve combinations made it through to the jump-off, with Neal Fearon the only other rider flying the Irish flag, and finishing sixth with Michael Quirke's Irish-bred mare 'Teulada'.

Olympic Eventing - O'connor's Clear Helps Ireland To Eighth Place

(FOR ALL OLYMPIC NEWS UPDATES PLEASE CLICK ON LINK IN PANEL ABOVE) THE IRISH Three- Day Eventing team of Austin O'Connor, Louise Lyons, Capt. Geoff Curran, Niall Griffin and Patricia Ryan finished eighth overall on Tuesday after the completion of the show jumping phase in Hong Kong, on a total of 276.10 penalties. Best of the Irish in the afternoon's show jumping phase was Cork's Austin O'Connor with 'Hobby du Mee', who returned a zero score and qualified for the Individual Final, where he finished 22nd. Capt. Geoff Curran and the Minister for Defence's 'Kilkishen' returned just two time faults, while Louise Lyons and 'Watership Down' had two fences down and a single time fault. Patricia Ryan from Bandon in Co. Cork with 'Fernhill Clover Mist' ran up 13 faults in total during show jumping, and she and Wexford's Niall Griffin on 'Lorgaine', who had 12 faults, were Ireland's discard scores.

Para Equestrian - Dressage Second At Hartpury Is A First For Ireland

17/06/09 IRELAND scored a first when finishing second at the FEI Hartpury Festival of Dressage yesterday (Thursday). The Para Equestrian team of Kathryn Wheelock, Eilish Byrne, Breda Bernie and Helen Kearney recorded the country's highest finishing position at this level when ending in the runner-up spot to a dominant British team in the three-star event. With eight teams competing in total, the Irish quartet edged ahead of Japan yesterday, but were unable to match the British score, which had been mounting since Wednesday with a succession of individual first places. However, Wheelock took a fifth with 'Indi' and a seventh on 'Taurus' in Thursday's Grade III contest, while on Wednesday former Athens Paralympic rider Breda Bernie from Cabinteely in Dublin placed 'Tula' in runner-up spot in the Grade B team test with Helen Kearney on ''Boris-Zeid' in fourth. Eilish Byrne with 'Youri' also had a fifth place in Wednesday's Grade II team test.
