THE recently retired Officer Commanding of the Army Equitation School, Lt-Col Gerry O’Gorman, is to take over as the Chairman of Para Equestrian Ireland. The position was previously held by Norman Storey.

The final leg of the Olympic Saddlery Connacht Grand Prix League 2011 took place at Duffy's Equestrian Centre over the weekend. The final league standings are detailed below. Horses that are eligible for Horse Sport Ireland’s Irish Sport Horse prize are denoted with an asterisk. WEXFORD'S Bertram Allen added yet another silver medal this afternoon (Sunday) to Ireland's haul at the European Pony Championships in Jaskowo, Poland when finishing second in the Individual Show Jumping Championships.

OLYMPIC fever is ramping up as today marks the one-year countdown to the London 2012 Olympic Games and 100 years of equestrian sport in the Olympic movement. The London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony on 27 July will be followed by 12 days of equestrian competition in Greenwich Park, where the world’s best horses and riders will compete for six gold medals in the Olympic disciplines of Eventing, Dressage and Jumping.

IT WAS with great sadness that Horse Sport Ireland learned of the death of Tattersalls Ireland Managing Director George Mernagh on Friday. George had a very successful career as National Hunt Jockey and a distinguished career with Tattersalls. His career as a jockey and with Tattersalls brought him to prominence in the Thoroughbred world. He also made an immense contribution to the Sport Horse sector.
