Horse Sport Ireland has agreed to sponsor the purchase of an Irish Draught Horse for the Garda Mounted Unit.
Horse Sport Ireland are organising a screening day to identify a suitable horse for the Garda Mounted Unit, which will be held at Coilog Equestrian Centre on Wednesday 1st September 2010. Horses will be required to walk and trot in hand before being tacked up and ridden in walk, trot and canter. Suitable Irish Draught Horses will be selected to undergo a six week trial period at the Garda Mounted Unit in the Phoenix Park, Dublin.
The screening day will be open to the following horses:
- Geldings registered in the Irish Draught Horse Studbook as Class 1/RID (or eligible for inspection for Class 1/RID status, i.e. by a stallion classified as Class1/ID, or Class 2/S1 in the Irish Draught studbook and out of a dam that is classified as RID or AID
- Aged between 4-7 years
- Minimum height of 16.3 and whole colour
The closing date for applications is the 20th August and the fee for entering the screening day is €15.
