22/08/09 WITH A top prize of 95,000 euro on offer, competition for today's (Saturday) Netherlands Grand Prix was predictably fierce, and Ireland's Jessica Kurten came within one fence of making it through to the jump-off, but had to settle for ninth place overall.
Riding Lady Georgina Forbes's bay mare 'Quibell', the 39 year-old Northerner recorded one of 14 first-round clears on Valkenswaard's five-star course, but four faults in the second round left her out of the seven-horse jump-off, which was ultimately won by in-form Australian Edwina Alexander and 'Isovlas Itot du Chateau', with Germany's Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum a third of a second behind in runner-up spot on the talented 'Shutterfly'.
Ireland's Denis Lynch was also inside the Grand Prix prize money bracket, taking a 14th place with eight faults over two rounds on 'Abbervail van het Dingeshof' in this eighth leg of the Global Champions' Tour.
