SPLAINE ANNOUNCES HICKSTEAD NATIONS' CUP SQUAD

AFTER a superb win in Aachen and with just two legs left of the 2010 Meydan Nations' Cup Superleague, Team Ireland Equestrian's show jumping manager Robert Splaine this afternoon (Tuesday) announced his squad to compete at the penultimate competition in Hickstead, England.

TIPPERARY'S Denis Lynch failed to pull off his second consecutive Aachen Grand Prix win in Germany today, with Billy Twomey the only Irish rider to qualify for the second round.

IRELAND'S Children on Horses team of Cormac Hanley, Tim McDonagh, Noelle Barry and Wesley Byrne took the European Bronze Medal at the Nations' Cup in Haras de Jardy, France this evening (Thursday), finishing on a final of just five faults.

LYING sixth of the world's top ten teams and ten-to-one outsiders when they entered the arena at Aachen tonight (Thursday), Ireland's quartet of Billy Twomey, Dermott Lennon, Cian O'Connor and Denis Lynch won the German Nations' Cup with the help of double clear rounds from Lennon and O'Connor.

A TOTAL of nine international venues will see Irish riders compete for points and prize money this weekend, with the German Nations' Cup at Aachen and the European Championships for Children and Juniors in France the main focus of attention at different ends of the experience scale.

LYNCH THIRD, O'CONNOR SIXTH IN GERMAN JUMP-OFF

WITH tension mounting ahead of Thursday night's critical Nations' Cup class at the five-star Aachen show in Germany, Denis Lynch gave Irish spirits a lift with a third place in the big jump-off class tonight (Wednesday) with Thomas Straumann's gelding 'All Inclusive NRW'. Cian O'Connor also placed the bay gelding 'Splendor' in sixth overall.

TWENTY-nine year-old Irish rider Shane Sweetnam took fourth place in this afternoon's (Sunday) Grand Prix at Geesteren in the Netherlands with the bay stallion 'Amaretto d'Arco', and collected 8,000 euro in prize money.
