QUIGLEY FOURTH, BREEN SIXTH AT HICKSTEAD OPENING DAY

DAVE Quigley was best of the Irish on the opening day (Thursday) of the Derby Meeting at Hickstead in England with a fourth place in the big jump-off class. Shane Breen and the Irish-bred 'Dorada' placed sixth, as fastest of the first round time-faulters.

LYNCH FIRST IRISH WINNER AT MONTE CARLO

TIPPERARY'S Denis Lynch took Ireland's first winner's trophy of the weekend at the five-star show in Monte Carlo tonight (Thursday), with Cork's Billy Twomey finishing just behind him in joint second.

A LARGELY rookie Irish team swept all before them at the Finnish Nations Cup in Ypaja this afternoon (Sunday) to claim the trophy on an aggregate score of just five faults over two rounds.

TALBOT RUNNER-UP IN SAN REMO GRAND PRIX

KILDARE-born Niall Talbot took second place this evening (Sunday) at the San Remo Grand Prix in Italy with the chestnut gelding 'Nicos de la Cense'. The 39 year-old Swiss-based rider was one of ten through to the second round, and although finishing a comfortable six seconds clear of third-placed Belgian Nick Vrins, Talbot was unable to catch Italian ace Natale Chiaudani.

SWEETNAM RUNNER-UP IN GERMAN GRAND PRIX QUALIFIER

TWENTY-nine year-old Irish rider Shane Sweetnam took second place in this afternoon's (Saturday) Grand Prix Qualifier at Pforzheim's three-star show in Germany. The Cork-born rider, who is normally based in Florida, piloted the Spy Coast Farm-owned stallion 'Amaretto d'Arco'.

IN A NATIONS' Cup full of upsets, with strong resurgences by lower ranked Meydan superleague teams USA and the Netherlands, Ireland finished equal seventh with Switzerland at Rotterdam this afternoon (Friday).

LIMERICK'S Joan Greene claimed the runner-up spot at Ypaja's Grand Prix in Finland this evening (Friday) with Tim O'Shea's chestnut mare 'Biscaya d'Eversem'. Greene, who took an identical place with the mare at Balmoral's Grand Prix in Belfast last month, was one of just three to register a double clear round from a starting field of 32.

IRISH confidence received a lift in Rotterdam tonight (Thursday) ahead of Friday's Nations' Cup clash when team member Capt. David O'Brien took a decisive victory in the two-phase competition at the Dutch five-star show.

HORSE SPORT IRELAND CONFIRMS SQUADS FOR FINLAND AND NORWAY NATIONS CUPS

HORSE Sport Ireland has confirmed the squads that will represent Ireland in the Nations' Cup of Finland and Norway. These Nations' Cups are not part of the Meydan Superleague and of the squad of five riders heading to Norway, four will all be making their Nations' Cup debuts.
