Minister for Sport, Michael Ring, was at Claremorris this week to meet the Connacht members of Team Ireland Equestrian's European Under 14 Team show jumping Gold Medallists.

HOLDING joint fifth place at the halfway mark, Ireland's show jumping quartet of Shane Breen, Shane Sweetnam, Denis Lynch and Billy Twomey staged a remarkable second-round comeback to claim equal second place at the finish of the German Nations' Cup at Aachen tonight (Thursday), just one fence behind the winning Netherlands team.

THE IRISH under-14 Children on Horses team took their first European Championship gold medal after a jump-off with Germany today (Saturday) at Comporta in Portugal. With 16 nations competing over two days, Ireland last night were equal third with France, but this afternoon produced four consecutive clear rounds to tie with Germany on four faults, forcing a jump-off for the gold medal, which Ireland won with a fence in hand.

BREEN RUNNER-UP IN FALSTERBO DERBY

TIPPERARY'S Shane Breen took the runner-up prize of 14,000 euro in this evening's (Saturday) Falsterbo Derby, conceding first place to France's Patrice Delaveau and 'Ornella Mail', who won 19,000 euro.
