TIPPERARY'S Shane Breen took the runner-up prize of 14,000 euro in this evening's (Saturday) Falsterbo Derby, conceding first place to France's Patrice Delaveau and 'Ornella Mail', who won 19,000 euro.
Delaveau and Breen, riding the Irish-bred 'Mullaghdrin Gold Rain', were the only two combinations to make it to the jump-off from a starting field of 18, and the Irish rider, assured of a second place, decided to retire in the second round.
In the earlier Grand Prix Qualifier another Tipperary-born rider, Denis Lynch, brought out his Nations' Cup gelding 'Lord Luis', and finished third, with Swedish star Malin Baryard-Johnsson claiming the trophy with 'H&M Reveur De Hurtebise'.
Falsterbo's Grand Prix, with its prize pot of 200,000 euro, starts at 2pm Irish time.
