TIPPERARY'S Shane Breen claimed victory this afternoon (Thursday) in the first jump-off competition at this week's five-star Nations' Cup show at Hickstead in England with Sandra Duffy's back-in-form Cruising gelding 'World Cruise'.
The 35 year-old Sussex-based rider outpaced British challenger Tim Stockdale by just under a second to take the 7,000 euro prize in a 13-horse jump off.
Earlier, Ireland's Shane Sweetnam placed fourth in the speed class with Spycoast Farm-owned bay mare 'Rolette'.
Both men are part of Robert Splaine's Nations' Cup squad, who will do battle for the British trophy tomorrow (Friday) afternoon in the last-but-one round of the 2010 Meydan Superleague, with the Failte Ireland Dublin Horse Show staging the final leg next Friday, after which the lowest-scoring four teams will be relegated from the series. Ireland currently lies third on the leaderboard of the ten teams competing.
