CROOKS THIRD, SWEETNAM SIXTH IN US CHALLENGE CUP

(11 Feb 2011)

IRELAND'S Jennifer Crooks recorded one of just three double clear rounds at last night's (Thursday) WEF Challenge Cup in Wellington, Florida, and claimed third prize.

Crooks, who had managed ninth at last week's fourth leg of the Challenge Cup on the ten year-old mare 'SF Uryadi', upped her game for the fifth in the series and rode a slow and careful jump-off round with the same horse on a course designed by Tipperary-born Alan Wade to finish behind US winner McLain Ward with 'Antares F' and Venezuela's Pablo Barrios on 'G&C Quick Star'.

Cork's Shane Sweetnam and 'Rolette' posted a faster time than Crooks, but at the cost of a fence down in the nine-horse jump-off, leaving him in sixth place at the finish.

The WEF Challenge Cup also served as a qualifier for Saturday night's 150,000 dollar World Cup Qualifier at the American venue.
