JOHN Floody added valuable points to his HSI Chippison tour standing today (Sunday) with a Grand Prix win at Kernan's Equestrian Centre in Co. Armagh on Jim Monks's 13 year-old grey gelding 'Ashbourne'.
Moving up five from his sixth-place finish on Wednesday at Broadmeadows, 'Ashbourne' repeated his third leg Rolestown victory, achieved earlier this month. The Slane, Co. Meath rider also slotted the Irish-bred 'Larkhill Cruiser' into third today, and said afterwards: " I'm absolutely delighted with both horses. This is 'Ashbourne's' second win in the tour, but it's only second time out for 'Larkhill Cruiser' who is an eight year-old, and I'm really pleased with the third-placed finish."
Runner-up spot at the Crossmaglen venue was claimed by 17 year-old Conor Drain from Co. Antrim, riding his mother Geraldine's 'Fine Filly', finishing on a double clear, but half a second off the pace of the more experienced Floody.

IT WAS a three hour drive to Maryville Co. Cork for Castletownbere's Blayne Sheehan today (Sunday) but the Young Rider shrugged off the distance with a convincing win in the HSI Chippison Grand Prix on his father Edward's seven year-old Irish-bred chestnut gelding 'Rathglass Dexter'.
Runner-up spot in the 13 horse jump-off went to Sinead Kennedy on William Kennedy' 'KEC Alicante', while third place went to another Young Rider, Vincent Byrne on James Weldon's 'Jays Lad'.
Horse Sport Ireland's Junior / Young Rider Show Jumping High Performance Manager John Ledingham said: "It's great to see so many Young Riders out today, and doing so well, with a total of three in the top six in the jump-off at Maryville this afternoon."
