FLOODY WINS THIRD LEG OF HSI CHIPPISON SPRING TOUR

(07 Mar 2010)

JOHN Floody recorded a decisive win in the HSI Chippison Grand Prix at Killossery Lodge Stud this afternoon (Sunday) when he produced the competition's only double clear with Jim Monks's 13 year-old grey gelding 'Ashbourne'.

Competing in this third leg of the HSI Chippison Spring Tour, the Slane, Co. Meath rider was one of just eight through to the jump-off from a startlist of 30, and improved dramatically on his fourth-placed finish in last week's Grand Prix at Cavan.

Frank Curran took the Young Rider trophy when he slotted John Curran's 'Pepp' into the runner-up spot on a very fast time, but with four faults on the board after lowering a fence.

Third at Killossery Lodge was Strabane's Peter Smyth, riding Mary C. Barron's 'Hermione IV'. Smyth also took fifth place today with 'Hygie du Golf'.

The HSI Chippison Spring Tour 2010 sees new sponsors John and Marie Burke coming on board for 2010 with Horse Sport Ireland and the Showjumpers Club. Thoroughbred Remedies, Darragh Equestrian Solutions, Comfort Zone, Jaguar Saddles and Showjumping Ireland are supporting the Tour.

Horse Sport Ireland, in addition to their sponsorship, will provide a prize fund of 1,000 euro for the highest placed Irish Sport Horse in the league. Five hundred euro will be awarded to the breeder of that horse and 500 euro to the owner. The Showjumpers Club will award 2,000 euro to the overall winner of the league and 750 euro to the runner up.

The Tour will run at 13 venues, finishing in Coilog Eventing, Co. Kildare, on April 18, 2010.
