HUGHES SECOND IN PORTUGUESE GRAND PRIX

(12 Jun 2011)

KILKENNY-born Marion Hughes continued her run of good form in Portugal when she finished second in the Grand Prix at the three-star show in Portimao today (Sunday).

Hughes won the Grand Prix at Vimeiro last week with the Irish-bred 'Heritage HHS Fortuna' but the same combination were pipped to the winner's podium today by local rider Marina Frutuoso de Melo and 'Coltaire Z', with under a second separating the two in the final round.

Hughes also had a runner-up placing in Friday's jump-off class at Portimao with the same horse.

Ireland's Eddie Moloney was in the ribbons at Portimao as well, riding the Irish-bred 'Chatsworth Dan' into fourth place in Saturday's speed class, and taking a third with yet another Irish-bred mount, 'Foxy Cleopatra M', on the same day in the jump-off competition.
