IRISH DUO ADD TO RIO PRIZE MONEY

(28 Aug 2010)

THE IRISH duo of Denis Lynch and Billy Twomey added to their prize money at the Global Champions' Tour Final at Rio de Janeiro this afternoon (Saturday) with top ten places in the Accumulator competition.

After a third place from Tipperary-born Lynch in the show's opening competition on Thursday, and a further third from 33 year-old Twomey in Friday night's Winning Round competition, the pair lined out again against 40 of the world's top riders and horses today, with Lynch and Flaminia Straumann's bay gelding 'Lacroix' taking fifth place and Twomey with Sue Davies's chestnut mare 'Tinka's Serenade' finishing in eighth.

Lynch picked up 1,400 euro and Twomey 700 to add to the Irish prize money at the five-star show. The competition was won by France's Simon Delestre and 'Orphee de l'Illon'.

The two Irish riders will compete in tonight's Global Champions' Tour Grand Prix, which carries not only 300,000 euro in prize money but a share of the million euro bonus reserved for the riders who fill the top 18 places in the Tour's leaderboard at the end of the series.
