19/09/09 JESSICA Kurten continued the exceptional run of Irish success at Barcelona's four-star show with a second place in this evening's (Saturday) Queen's Cup competition.
Riding Lady Georgina Forbes's nine year-old mare 'Castle Forbes Myrtille Paulois', Kurten claimed the runner-up prize of 8,000 euro in a nine-horse jump-off behind Austria's Thomas Fruhmann.
Cork's Billy Twomey was also in the prize money but had to settle for a 13th place on 'Montanus Colorado' after a single mistake in the first round.
Yesterday (Friday) Kurten won the Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona on 'Castle Forbes Cosma', the first Irish rider to do so since 1996, with Twomey in second place. The two riders also took first and second in the opening day's feature class, with Twomey this time the winner, as well as four other top five places in a 24 hour period.
