DERMOTT Lennon came very close to adding another victory to Ireland's record at Copenhagen, Denmark today (Sunday) when finishing runner-up in the Danish Grand Prix.
The Co. Down rider, who was a member of the victorious Irish Nations' Cup team on Friday, piloted David Prentice's grey gelding 'Kalvinretto' once more, but though going clear in the first round, dropped a single pole second time out to finish behind the competition's only zero-scoring rider, France's Franck Schillewaert, whose careful and slow second round on 'Marquis de la Lande' clinched him the 15,000 euro first prize.
Lennon, who picked up 10,000 euro for his effort, also saw Nations' Cup team-mate Capt. David O'Brien claim a Grand Prix seventh place on the Minister for Defence's Royal Concorde gelding 'Annestown'.
O'Brien had also taken a sixth place in Saturday night's jump-off class with the bay Cajetano mare 'Kiltoom'.
