A SINGLE mistake in the first round of the Global Champions Tour Grand Prix at Cannes, France tonight (Saturday) hampered Tipperary's Denis Lynch in his attempt to repeat fellow Irish rider Billy Twomey's victory in the second leg of the series at Valencia last month.
Lynch, riding Thomas Straumann's bay gelding 'Lantinus', went clear in his second round but double zero scores from four other riders left him out of the jump-off and he settled for a fifth place and prize money of 16,000 euro as compensation.
Victory and 92,000 euro in prize money went instead to Australia's Edwina Alexander and the Selle Francais gelding 'Cevo Itot du Château', who cleared all three rounds and finished the jump-off with a comfortable three seconds in hand over Spanish runner-up Sergio Alvarez Moya.
