IN A torrential rainstorm at Valkenswaard in the Netherlands this evening (Sunday) Ireland's Denis Lynch added to his considerable weekend prize money with a win in the last competition of the five-star show, the Medium Tour Final.
With 19 combinations through to the jump-off from a startlist of 35, the Tipperary rider was third into the arena with Thomas Straumann's bay gelding 'All Inclusive NRW' and set a time that proved impossible to equal, seeing off British challenger Guy Williams, who settled for the runner-up spot with 'Torinto van de Middelstede', and relegating the USA's Laura Kraut and 'Unique' - who had beaten him in Saturday's Grand Prix - to third place.
Afterwards a delighted Lynch, who picked up 8,000 euro to add to his Grand Prix takings of 57,000 euro, said: “I am just delighted for the owners but to be fair I made the most of the weather, and I reckon being Irish I was more used to the rain than the others!”
