WITH tension mounting ahead of Thursday night's critical Nations' Cup class at the five-star Aachen show in Germany, Denis Lynch gave Irish spirits a lift with a third place in the big jump-off class tonight (Wednesday) with Thomas Straumann's gelding 'All Inclusive NRW'.

Cian O'Connor also showed a turn of speed on the big track to place the bay gelding 'Splendor', which he owns jointly with Stephen O'Connor, in sixth overall from a starting field of 53.

O'Connor and Lynch will switch to different horses for tomorrow night's team event, and will be joined in the ten-nation contest by Dermott Lennon and Billy Twomey.
