LYNCH WINS GERMAN QUALIFIER FOR SECOND YEAR

(02 Jun 2011)

IRELAND'S Denis Lynch took home his second Mercedes-Benz SLK convertible from Hamburg today (Thursday) after winning the Grand Prix Qualifier - repeating his 2010 success at the same show.

Piloting Thomas Straumann's 13 year-old gelding  'Lantinus', who had been having a quiet year until now, the 35 year-old Tipperary rider was second last to go of the 14 who made it to jump-off, and his time of 45.30 seconds could not be caught.

Portugal's Luciana Diniz and 'Winningmood' placed second in the Qualifier, while Germany's Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum and 'Checkmate' claimed third.

Lynch, who is currently ranked fifth in the world, took victory in Hamburg's Grand Prix Qualifier last year on another Straumann horse, 'Nabab's Son', collecting the first of his red convertibles as the winner's prize.

The Global Champions' Tour Grand Prix takes place in Hamburg on Saturday afternoon, with a 200,000 euro prize pot at stake.
