NETHERLANDS IS LAST CHANCE FOR WORLD CUP FINAL QUALIFICATION

(24 Mar 2011)

WITH just Bill Twomey now certainly qualified for show jumping's Rolex World Cup Final in Germany this May, fellow Irish riders Jessica Kurten and Denis Lynch will be making their last bid this weekend to be one of the elite 18 who compete for the coveted World Cup trophy at Leipzig.

's-Hertogenenbosch in the Netherlands hosts the 13th and final qualifying show in the 2010/2011 series, starting today (Thursday), with the vital World Cup qualifier Grand Prix competition taking place on Sunday afternoon.

Cork's Billy Twomey is currently in sixth place in the World Cup Rankings, and is assured of a place at the final, but Jessica Kurten is hovering outside the qualification zone at number 23, while Tipperary's Denis Lynch is at number 30.

A top placing in Sunday's World Cup five-star Grand Prix could hoist either rider into the top 18, but rivalry amongst Europe's best riders and horses will be white-hot as they battle for the points that might guarantee their place in the Leipzig World Cup Final.
