CAPT. David O'Brien and Billy Twomey shared third place with four other riders in this afternoon's (Sunday) DFS Derby at Hickstead, England, and a total of three irish-bred horses finished in the top ten.
Only two riders made it through with zero scores on the gruelling course, and the jump-off saw Guy Williams snatch the trophy from fellow British rider Tina Fletcher.
O'Brien, riding the Minister for Defence's Cruising mare 'Mo Chroi', was fastest of the first round four-faulters, with Cork's Billy Twomey and Sue Davies's 'Blue Thunder' not far behind.
Sharing tenth place with three other riders on eight faults was Tipperary's Shane Breen on the Irish-bred 'Dorada', while another Irish-bred, 'The Butlers Pantry Spitfield', ridden by Olive Clarke, also made it into the tenth-place slot.
