O'BRIEN SECOND IN POLISH WORLD CUP CLASS

(13 Nov 2010)

ARMY rider Capt. David O'Brien took second place in the Polish World Cup Qualifier at the three-star show in Leszno tonight (Saturday) aboard the Minister for Defence's Co. Down-bred bay mare 'Kiltoom'.

Though points gained from his runner-up spot count only towards the Central European World Cup league, the 32 year-old Athlone-born rider collected 4,000 euro for his place, with a finishing time just under a second shy of Polish winner Aleksandra Lusina and 'Ekwador' in the 18 horse jump-off.

Ireland's Eddie Moloney also made it through to the jump-off with another Irish-bred horse, John McDonald's bay gelding 'Chatsworth Dan', but a single rail down left them in ninth place overall.
