CIAN O'Connor finished a successful weekend in Stockholm, Sweden this morning (Sunday) with a fifth place in the Grand Prix on 'Splendor', the 11 year-old gelding he owns jointly with Stephen O'Connor.
The Meath-based rider was one of eight through to the jump-off at the Ericsson Globe Arena, but a single rail down in his second outing denied him a chance of taking home the Volkswagen Tiguan that was awarded to the winner. That honour went instead to Dutch rider Leon Thijssen and the talented bay stallion 'Tyson', who recorded one of just two double clear rounds in the competition.
Thirty one year-old O'Connor took two sixth places yesterday at Stockholm, one with 'Splendor' and one with Declan McEvoy's 'Umberto', and the same two horses gave him a fourth and third place on Friday.
