CIAN O'Connor added to Ireland's weekend show jumping laurels when winning the feature class tonight (Saturday) at London Olympia in a thrilling jump-off that featured 13 top international riders.
Billy Twomey, who briefly held the lead in the final round, added to Irish dominance of the class by taking fourth place with Sue Davies's 'Je t'Aime Flamenco'.
It was O'Connor, however, who stole the show when second last to jump on the bay gelding 'Splendor', cutting almost a full second off the time of Simon Delestre, whose performance up to that point had seemed fast enough to claim the trophy for France.
Portugal's Luciana Diniz was the last rider into the Olympia arena to challenge O'Connor, but a single fence down left the Irishman the clear winner.
Thirty-one year-old O'Connor also won the opening class of the seven-day London Christmas show, riding Declan McEvoy's Celano gelding 'Umberto'.
